Suriya's wife, Jyothika, feels that 'Kanguva' has been victimized by a concerted hate campaign. In a social media post on Sunday, the former actress suggested that the reviews out there didn't acknowledge the film's positives and only focussed on the negatives.
Suriya's admirers and fans are of the view that some films are usually more hated than the rest and 'Kanguva' is one of those unlucky movies. "The epic fantasy is not without its merits. But most reviews have been lop-sided, not caring to acknowledge the plus points in 'Kanguva' even as a token," a fan of Suriya lamented.
The negativity stalking 'Kanguva' has led to family audiences staying away from the movie, as a result of which the box office collections took a dip over the weekend.
In Telugu, some actors and movies receive more backlash than others. 'Devara' is an example. It's another matter that the film outdid the social media-fuelled backlash and emerged a victor eventually. 'Kanguva' seems to be a victim of the expectations its genre generated before its release. Sky-high expectations can often stir passionate criticism.
