Nayanthara issues a public apology

The Tamil film 'Annapoorani' was recently taken down by Netflix after Hindu groups alleged that its scenes were offensive to the religious sentiments of Hindus, especially Brahmins. In a statement, Nayanthara has said that the film didn't intend to cause hurt.

Saying that the comedy-drama might have "inadvertently caused hurt", the 'Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy' and 'Jawan' star added that the makers didn't expect the removal of a film certified by the CBFC.

"My team and I never intended to hurt anyone's sentiments and we understand the gravity of this issue. Being someone who wholly believes in God and frequently visits temples across the country, it is the last thing I would intentionally do," the Lady Superstar wrote in a public statement shared by her publicist.

She began her apology letter with the chant 'Jai Shri Ram'. A theory is that Nayanthara was not forced to say sorry by anybody and that she did it on her own.

The film was a box-office failure in Tamil Nadu. It had no Telugu release because it couldn't find distributors in Telugu.
