Picture a director whose name remains unfamiliar to the masses yet is hailed as one of India's top five filmmakers. This distinction has been secured for Bollywood director Zoya Akhtar by Netflix India. Renowned for her work in 'Luck By Chance' and 'Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara', Zoya achieved notable box-office success in 2019 with 'Gully Boy'.
While her acclaimed films couldn't quite accomplish it, 'The Archies' for Netflix did the trick for Zoya Akhtar. Given the streaming giant's global networking and strong PR, Zoya has come to appear on The Daily Show, which is an Emmy and Peabody Award-winning program. The show enjoys a subscriber base of more than 10 million on YouTube. On Twitter alone, it has 9.2 million followers.
At the start of Zoya's episode, we see her being described as one of the top-most contemporary filmmakers from India. This is something the likes of Lokesh Kanagaraj, Sukumar, Sandeep Reddy Vanga, and Sanjay Leela Bhansali have not managed so far.
Association with Netflix or Amazon Prime Video gives Indian filmmakers PR mileage like no other!
