Buzz! Jagan government's proposed policy worries big heroes

The Jaganmohan Reddy government is reportedly mooting the idea of clamping down on benefit shows, special fan shows and surge pricing in the early days of the release of big-ticket movies. For years now, movies have benefited from a hike in the ticket prices for big-budget movies that are high in demand. Customers don't mind shelling out Rs 50 or so extra to watch such movies.

But the party is soon going to come to an end. And the same is said to be worrying star heroes, whose movies are going to fail to make huge moolah in the early days of a movie's release.

There is worse. In his letter to AP CM Jaganmohan Reddy, Mudragadda Padmanabham has reportedly suggested that the fee that is meant to be paid to actors and technicians should be collected from the producer by the government first. "Deposit those amounts into a bank account. Then pay the amounts to the actors in order to increase transparency. This way, project costs will also be controlled," he said.

This is going to be even more frustrating for the industry if implemented. Nobody would like to take the fee via a government agency or government-mediated mediator.
