Veteran actress Jayanthi today breathed her last, leaving the south Indian film industry bereaved. Rich tributes have flooded social media from her fans, journalists, industry observers and celebs.

While she was popular in Telugu and Tamil, Jayanthi was even more popular in Sandalwood. So much so, she did as many as 45 movies with Dr. Rajkumar, the thespian.

Her career spanned decades. While her female fans remember her for playing sentimental and mawkish roles, Jayanthi was known for doing bold roles as well. Journalist Prakash Upadhyaya said that she was the first Kannada actress to wear the swimsuit in a Kannada movie.

Besides being a multi-lingual actress, Jayanthi could ace in character roles as well. "The South Indian star was known for her performances in ‘Miss Leelavathi’, ‘Ethir Neechal’ and ‘Edakallu Guddada Mele’," wrote Scroll in a tribute.

Ragalahari extends condolences to the bereaved family of Jayanthi!
