Veteran Tamil lyricist Vaali passes away at 81

Veteran poet and lyricist Vaali is no more. The 81 year old lyricist was hospitalized few weeks back due to breathing ailment and passed away at 5 PM today (Thursday, July 18, 2013) in Chennai after being kept on a ventilator for the past few days. The legendary lyricist wrote more than 10,000 songs in Tamil in his five decades of film journey and holds the record for writing most number of songs in Tamil. Government of India honored him with the prestigious Padma Shri award in 2007. His last movie is ‘Thillu Mullu’ (2013) in which he penned lyrics for the song was crooned by Ranjith and composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja. Besides writing lyrics, he has also acted in four Tamil movies that includes two Kamal Haasan’s films and two K Balachander’s films.
