Hyderabad 10K Run 2014 Press Meet

India's pioneering urban running carnival - the Hyderabad 10k Run - acknowledged trendsetter of modern city-based marathons and runs in the country - is all set to celebrate its success in establishing running as a way of life over its previous 11 editions, and is set to Flag-Off this year's Run. This year, the Hyd 10K Run is aligned to the theme of 'Happening Hyderabad', to mark its first Run in the Telangana State and contribute to the spirit of making the city a greater global icon.

Initiated by the Hyderabad 10K Run Foundation, the 12th episode of the urban carnival, including the 10K Run which was brought to India in our city, is gearing up for a grand flag-off on November 30, Sunday, and will bring together as per its vision people from all walks of life to run, walk, dance, meet, interact and celebrate the spirit of Hyderabad, and cherish life, health, fitness, sports, competition, and a sense of giving and sharing.

Reliance Jio Infocomm has joined the passion of celebrating ‘Every Step Counts’ as Principal Sponsor for the event while the State Government of Telangana would provide necessary support for the most awaited event of the twin cities.

The United Way of Hyderabad is the official charity partner of the Run, which will raise funds during the event for deployment throughout the year for causes ranging from education, disability support, people shelters, and animal care.

"The run received an added spring in the heel with the support of India's legendary sprinter, Sri Milkha Singh, awarded the Padma Shri and winner of several accolades, famed by the sobriquet "The Flying Sikh", who in admiration of the cause has consented to become the brand ‘Runner and Ambassador’, adding to the excitement and glory of India’s first and most popular of Urban Runs," says Ms. Uma Prasad Chigurupati, Chairperson, HydlOK Foundation and Guinness Book Record holder in marathons.

"The 12th edition of the Hyderabad 10K Run has proudly become part of our Telangana government’s 'Happening Hyderabad' campaign to focus on year-round events in the city aimed at promoting Hyderabad as a truly international city,” says Ms. Uma Chigurupati.

The 10 kilometre Run will be flagged off from People's Plaza at 6.30 a.m. while the 7 kms Maza Run will be flagged off at 7 am on November 30, Sunday. The Run will follow course along NTR Gardens, Lumbini Park, Necklace Road arc abutting Hussain Sagar Lake and return to finish off at People's Plaza. The RFID chips are a must for 10 kms run, but not needed for 7 kms maza run.

The Hyderabad 10K Run will be equipped with best-in-class facilities and efficient support systems. Electronic Timing Devices or Chips are a part of Participant Kits, which ensures precise monitoring of running time. Free packaged water would be available at every kilometre, whereas medical facilities would be available at every alternate second kilometer, she said.

The Run expects people from all walks of life to participate in great numbers and is highly excited by early response from corporations in software, BPO, pharma, healthcare, services and government, as well as sports persons, celebrities from movie industry, musicians, dancers, entrepreneurs, NGOs and children from schools and colleges, youth and senior citizens. Registrations will begin tomorrow, October 31, Friday. Registration Kits can be obtained by those who have registered from the venue - People's Plaza - from November 29, Saturday, onwards. Every finisher will get a medal and all runners will get refreshments at finish line, she added.
