5K Run & 3K Fun Run flagged off at Hitex Exhibition Center
o Over 5000 runners participated in the 5K Run & 3K Run
o Ultra Marathoner Arun Bharadwaj to cover 200 km in 36 hrs non-stop treadmill run
Hyderabad, 29th August 2015: As Hyderabad gears up for the Airtel Hyderabad Marathon on 30th August, the sports lovers and enthusiasts are not left behind in the 5K Run and 3K Fun Run that was flagged off today at the Hitex Exhibition Center.
Shri C V Anand, IPS, Commissioner of Police, Cyberabad and Shri Jayesh Ranjan, IAS, Secretary, IT, Electronics & Communications Department, Government of Telangana have flagged off the 5K Run and 3K Fun Run respectively today in the presence of dignitaries from the Government, Corporate houses and the organising team from Hyderabad Runners Society.
Over 5000 runners assembled at the Hitex Exhibition Center at 7:00am today morning for the 5K Run and 3K Fun Run, which also happened to be a curtain raiser for Hyderabad's premier running event, the Airtel Hyderabad Marathon. Celebrating the 5th year of the Airtel Hyderabad Marathon, the organising committee - Hyderabad Runners, introduced the 3K Fun Run encouraging children as well as adults running novices to discover the joy of running and also be part of the premier annual event.
Being an integral part of the Airtel Hyderabad Marathon, the 46-year-old internationally acclaimed Ultra marathoner Arun Bhardwaj, is all set to create a new record by kick starting his non-stop 36-hour treadmill run. He began his non-stop run yesterday and is on the go to achieve a distance of over 200kms in 36 hours on a treadmill which no Indian has ever attempted.
On 30th August 2015, the mega sporting extravaganza "Airtel Hyderabad Marathon" celebrating sports and healthy life will kick off the Full Marathon (42.195 kms) and Half Marathon (21.095 kms) at 5:00am and 6:00am respectively at People's Plaza, Necklace Road and 10K Run will be flagged off at 7:30am at the Hitex Exhibition Center.

Airtel Hyderabad Marathon today might have become synonymous with many things which are Hyderabadi. It owes the current status to the vision, passion and hard work of the members of Hyderabad Runners, the team that had introduced this mammoth racing extravaganza to the city of Hyderabad. Founded in 2007, a good four years before the Marathon began to run across Hyderabad, the group currently has around 3200 members. The members dedicated its endeavour to inculcate community running culture in the city and roping in people from all walks of life. The baby steps covered shorter runs before the half and full marathons made their place on the map.
