Sky lanterns are an integral part of all Asian countries growing rice including India as farmers used to light lanterns during the season change from rains to winter to thank the rain gods. In some remote parts of India, people still make their own lantern with paper, cotton and vegetable oil to light. People call it by different names Akashdeep, Akashkhandil, Bhutta etc
