National, 10 March 2022: On the heels of the spectacular success of NBK’s Unstoppable, and its recently launched Telugu Indian Idol, aha, a 100% Telugu OTT platform, is bringing its viewers another poignant story. Standing true to their commitment of showcasing diverse content, aha, with their latest original web-series, ‘Qubool Hai?’ is all set to tackle an issue that continues to plague our society – child marriages.
With reports by UNICEF stating one-third of the worlds’ child brides are from India, or the report by National Crime Records Bureau, which estimates that over 33,855 girls have been kidnapped in the name of marriage, the show puts issues such as child bride’s and child trafficking into the spotlight.
Qubool Hai, a bilingual show (Telugu & Dakkani), is a fictionalized telling of child marriages and trafficking. Set in a small neighborhood of Hyderabad, the lives of its citizens are jolted when a 13 yr-old girl is abducted and forcibly married to an old Sheikh. Can an irresponsible father, an angry survivor and an earnest cop from the local police station save the child from becoming another victim? The trials and tribulations facing these three individuals and the many characters that weave their way in and out along the way, lies at the heart of ‘Qubool Hai?’.
Slated to premiere on the 11th of March, 2022 on aha’s platform, its action-packed trailer was launched by Rana Daggubati on Women’s Day with the message of ‘Prapanchaaniki cheppe time ochindhi! Some stories need to be told’. The teaser also was extremely well received with Ms. Sania Mirza, Mr. Shobu Yarlagadda (Producer, Arka Media Works), Ms. Nandini Reddy (Director, Oh Baby) and Ms. Vijaylakshmi Gadwal (the Mayor of Hyderabad) showing their support for the cause and the project.Created by Pranav Pingle Reddy and directed by Umair Hasan, Faiz Rai & Pranav Reddy, Qubool Hai is also a story of many firsts - the first time a young crew has shot in the bylanes of the old city and the first time a web series has captured the Ganga-Jamuna tehzeeb of Hyderabad. It is a show produced and created by Hyderabadis for Hyderabad.
Pranav Pingle Reddy, the creator of the show has worked on numerous socio-cultural documentaries across topics ranging from women empowerment and asylum-seeking refugees to political conflicts and the plight of internally displaced communities. His/Their last five-part documentary series, ‘Occupied’, was the only web-series to be selected for the Athens International Film and Video Festival.
