Shaher an exhibition of Varanasi Sarees at Good Earth

Good Earth presents Raw Mango’s “Shaher” an exhibition of Varanasi Saris and stitched blouses here in city at its premises at 563, Road No. 12. Banjara Hills.

The exhibition will be kicked off at Good Earth on 5th and will continue till 7th December from 11am to 8pm, informed Ms Vani Subhas, Managing Partner of Good Earth, Hyderabad.

Shaher is a collective endeavor of Raw Mango by Sanjay Garg and Hema Shroff Patel, who was born in the US but has lived in Mumbai for almost half her life.

This collection is a juxtaposition of her vision of exciting, busy, chaotic and overwhelming life of Mumbai and the more pristine, peaceful, and predictable life of Maheshwar, in the heart of Madhya Pradesh.

The etched designs on the grey stones of forts, temples and ripples (the Narmada lehar) compelled us to relook at patterns with exaggerated scale, layout and colours, making it distinctively modern and contemporary, she informed.

Raw Mango is a brand of contemporary Indian hand-woven textiles crafted using traditional techniques. Our saris, fabrics and stoles reflect the skills of the more than 450 craftspeople employed by us.

Garg chose the looms of Varanasi for his latest collection. This collection is an extension of Garg’s initiative to make handloom products more acceptable.

The Varanasi looms are known for their technical mastery in weaving together intricate designs and patterns — for the eponymous collection.

“The entire collection has been developed using the kadwa brocade technique of Varanasi. Kadwa is the ornamentation of motifs using extra wefts.

The patterns, which are etched in gold against a silk background, achieve a beautiful clarity,” he says. A firm believer of “less is more”, Garg, with this label, hopes to create a space for simplicity in traditional attire.
