Hyderabad, 20th September 2018: The maiden Edition of the 'CANceRUN' is being organised by Grace Cancer Foundation along with Hyderabad Runners, with the support of Government of Telangana, on October 7th, 2018 at Jal Vihar, Necklace Road. Sri Jayesh Ranjan, Principal Secretary, I & C and IT, Telangana; Ms Shilpa Reddy, Fashion Designer & Model; Ms Deepa Saxena, Former Mrs India Telangana and a Cancer Survivor; Dr Hemanth Vudayaraju, Robotic Surgical Oncologist, Marathoner & Race Director; Dr Vamsikrishna Medical Oncologist, Race Director and Mr B L Sujatha Rao, Retd. IGP & Founder, Grace Foundation; briefed media about the Run, at a press conference on Thursday.
Grace Cancer Foundation, a charity organisation, working towards providing succour to cancer patients, has initiated CANce/RUN, to raise public awareness against cancer, its prevention and early detection. The cancer survivors participating in the Run can instil confidence and hope amongst those afflicted of cancer, that cancer after all Cancer is conquerable.
This run is going to be one of the largest Cancer Run organised in India, with over 5000 participants already committed for the event and rearing to go and spread the word about cancer. Many more are expected to come on board by September 25th, 2018, the last date for registering. The Run will be in three categories of 2k fun walk/run, 5k run/walk and 10k timed run.
An avid marathoner Dr Hemanth Vudayaraju says, Running is the easiest way to stay fit, something which comes naturally to each one of us, requires least in terms of infrastructure and equipment and hence is the most uncomplicated way to yield sustaining health benefits. In the west every major city marathon has a huge number of charity runners and cancer related charities being the foremost. There are a lot of myths and misbeliefs regarding Cancer along with stigma and a sense of hopelessness. We intend to make this an annual event and take the concept of charity running into every household and get everyone to meet and interact with
Conquerors, thereby raising awareness that if diagnosed eariy and treated appropriately the lifespan and quality of life is as normal as anyone else.
CANceRUN 2018 is a opportunity to challenge yourself, set new limits and reduce your cancer risk by being physically active. This is a race to save lives, organized by Grace Cancer foundation. Grace has been relentless in its efforts to create awareness about cancer and aims to save lives in the long run. No one should fight cancer alone, this event invites people of all walks of life to join in the fight and run alongside those who are impacted by Cancer, says
Mr B L Sujatha Rao. Cancer is curable if detected early and they don't just survive but Conquer the disease. This run is in support of People who fought this disease, he adds.
