Shriya Bhupal presents VIGNETTE:
A sense of structured calm in the chaos of floral frenzy intertwined with muted castel tones in pale colours highlights the new conceptual collection at Shriya Som. The handcrafted tedious technique of cutwork to achieve a guipure lace like look that is engineered to large patterns makes it labour intensive but truly enigmatic and endearing to the trained eye of an aesthete. Exquisite embellishment using fine silk thread in a myriad of pale tones to figuratively paint the shaded florals with thread. Minute bugle beads, rounded beads and crystals are interspersed to create, diminutive and large blooms that merge into feathers creating a vignette. Modern silhouettes for the new age feminist that adhere to classic shapes popularized by Shriya Som like the quintessential midi dress, bomber jacket, body con dresses and the introduction of the trench coat dress which is rendered effortlessly in this technique. Willowy whites, parchment, signature onion pink and misty grey with a hint of metallic bring this artistry alive rendered in full bloom florals that merge into feathered plumage to enhance and dramatize the classic silhouettes. Sheer silks and grid metallic tulles are used to create a buoyant romantic collection nuanced with exquisite garment construction and engineering techniques. The inner engineering is fabricated to balance the outer look of every piece and this perfect marriage creates the effortless yet ephemeral collection
ANANYA MALHOTRA REDDY
Ananya Malhotra’s collections consist of pieces of jewellery that have been crafted using couture cut gemstones. She says , “We are constantly trying to reinnovate the wheel when it comes to our precious stones. Emeralds, Rubies, Toimalines, Diamonds, Tanzanite and Pearls to name a few - all in 18K gold using Italian alloys. The pieces range from Earrings, Ear Jackets, bracelets, necklaces, chokers and rings.”
TALA
The theory of Rebirth is a significant part of ancient Asian philosophy: a belief in the cyclicality of all life, matter and existence. The diamonds and mother of pearls in this collection are inspired by the purity of this philosophy and represent the colour white: a traditional symbol of internal clarity and enlightenment. The use of gold, in white, rose or yellow, enhances the simplicity of the repeating patterns in the design and sits in perfect harmony with the gemstones.
THE NAZAR TALISMAN
The colours black and green carry great significance according to Indian philosophical traditions. Black is believed to ward off the negative energy of ‘Nazar’ or the ‘evil eye’, while in Hindu and Buddhist philosophy green emeralds are associated with healing and protection. The Nazar Talisman collection brings together elements that represent these qualities, combining emeralds, pearls, black onyx and black diamonds in unique, thoughtful pieces of jewellery with talismanic properties.
BALANCE
The fluidity and form of the Balance collection is inspired by creative director Ananya Malhotra’s personal connection to the chakras and their spirituality, inherited from her grandparents. The design represents the movement of energy between the root and crown chakras, with each coloured gemstone epitomising the flow of this energy from the ground up. The collection uses black diamonds, white diamonds, pearls and Tahitian mother of pearl - the darker colours representative of the root chakra and its grounding qualities, and the lighter signifying the consciousness.
LOTUS SAMSARA
The profoundly personal meanings behind jewellery, and its power to connect emotionally and reflect the internal spirit, are a constant source of fascination and inspiration for Ananya. This collection - a celebration of the Lotus flower - explores the journey of discovery experienced during life and connects the wearer to their own personal stories, past and present. The Lotus flower is very influential in Buddhist and Hindu philosophies. Its form represents the evolution of the soul, ever-changing and ever- moving. It is also considered the symbol of rebirth, known as Samsara.
CELESTIAL LOTUS
This collection distils the visual and spiritual form of the Lotus flower as a symbol of harmony and consciousness. With a palette of red rubies, pink tourmalines, pearls and black diamonds translated into contemporary geometric forms, the pattern of gemstones in each piece represents the relationship between the chakras and their perceived power when combined. The contrast of bold, geometric design and the delicate construction and detailing results in a hypnotic, feminine form.
