Hyderabad photographs were commissioned in 2014 by India Week, Kinemathek Hamburg and Goethe-Zentrum Hyderabad. Creatives and photography for this, part are by the Hyderabad based photographer Prashant Manchikanti.
About The Exhibition
The Magic of Cinema is a novel exhibition which juxtaposes photographs of old cinema houses and film culture of Hyderabad, against old movie t;heaters, film studios and galleries in Hamburg. This exhibition was presented at India Week 2015 in Hamburg and received the pride of place within the precinct of the Hamburg Rathaus, the seat of the government of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg, Germany. This neorenaissance external facade with interiors of historicism architecture was an ideal location to reminisce film culture of Hamburg and Hyderabad through close to 40 photographs. This exhibition is curated by Kinemathek Hamburg, Film and TV Museum Hamburg, India Week Hamburg in collaboration with Goethe-Zentrum Hyderabad. The German counterpart focuses on pictures from early cinema houses and cinema works, production scenes and opening events of the last century in Hamburg, covering the period 1906 to 1982, based on archival material from Film- und Fernsehmuseum Hamburg.
Hyderabad photographs were commissioned in 2014 by India Week, Kinemathek Hamburg and Goethe-Zentrum Hyderabad. The selection of cinema houses, interior and exteriors of popular and often times old theatre edifices as well as "behind-the-scenes" visuals depict succinctly cinema culture of Hyderabad. Creatives and photography for this part are by the Hyderabad based photographer Prashant Manchikanti.
