Yashoda Hospitals & Jeevandan initiate Mega Organ Donation Drive
Telugu States Emerge as Leaders in Organ Transplants
Hyderabad, 1st July, 2017: Yashoda Group of Hospitals (YGH) in association with Jeevandan, a government institution his for the second time has initiated an Organ Donation Drive. It was formally inaugurated at a programme specially organised on Saturday, July 1, 2017, at Shilpakala Vedika, Hyderabad. The aim was to spread awareness about the wide gap between patients who need transplants and the organs that are available in India. Also about the fact, that organ donation can save millions of lives. Donating organs can actually comfort millions of families and donor will become someone's Super Hero. YGH hopes that this initiative bridge the gap between the functioning of the government, other organisations and the organ donors and a large number of people are expected to sign up for Organ donation during this campaign. Dr Laxma Reddy, Health Minister, Telangana Jtate and well- known personalities including Sri Akkineni Nagarjuna, K.Vishwanath(noted film director), P V Sindhu, Sri G.Ravinder Rao, the Chairman of Yashoda Group of Hospitals, Dr G S Rao, Managing Director of YGH, Dr.G.Swarnalatha, the CEO of Jeevandan organisation. Telangana state. - Dr Chandrasekar, Executive Vice President of YGH, Senior IAS & IPS officials from the Telugu States, Heads of various Departments in YGH, Prominent Citizens from Hyderabad has participated in the programme.
Speaking at the Organ Donation Drive at Shilpakala Vedika Health Minister of Telangana Sate Dr.C.Laxma Reddy said: “There is a wide gap between patients who need transplants and the organs that are available in India. It is because of the poor organ donation rate’'. The organ donation rate in our country is — 0.36 per million in India, compared to some of the better-performing countries such as America’s 26, Spain's 35.3, and Croatia's 36.5 per million respectively. The total number of brain deaths due to accidents is nearly 1.5 lakhs annually. Other cause:; of brain death such as sub-arachnoids'( the area between the brain and the tissues that cover the brain ) haemorrhage and brain tumours would potentially add more numbers. Dr.Laxma Reddy said that even if 5-10 percent of all brain deaths are harvested properly for organ donation, technically there would be no requirement for a living person to donate organs.
“Our objective is to promote massive organ donation and make maximum availability & utilisation of cadaver organs in twD Telugu states. So we have associated with Jeevandan programme of the government of Telangana in our campaign,” explained Sri G.Ravinder Rao, the Chairman of Yashoda Group of Hospitals. He said that YGH has organised an Organ Donation Campaign in association with Jeevandan in the year 2014. which was received with the overwhelming response with 4650 registrations. The Chairman of YGH said that the continued support for the cause is evident from the fact that it donated a fully functioning ambulance to Jeevandan programme to make the transport of these precious organs faster and safer.
