Director Anil Ravipudi's 'F3' is hitting the cinemas this Friday (May 27). In this interview, he talks about the comedy entertainer's best aspects.
He also talks about the failure of 'Gaali Sampath' and the Nandamuri Balakrishna movie.
A new set of characters have been created for 'F3'. This is a franchise film rather than a sequel. In 'F2', the frustration is between married couples. In 'F3', the frustration is generated by greed for money. Greed, hope and conspiracy around money are what the comedy entertainer is all about.
'F3' needed to be more hilarious than 'F2'. That's why the characterizations of Venkatesh and Varun Tej had to be something unseen in 'F2'. That's why Venkatesh has night-blindness as per the story, while Varun Tej is a stammering character. Varun's body language is quirky whenever he stammers.
When I conceived 'F3', there was this idea to make it as a three-hero movie. But since the third hero is a trump card, I kept the idea aside for 'F3'. I will make 'F4' a three-hero movie.
It is not just the heroines (Tamannaah and Mehreen) who are greedy in the film. Everyone is greedy. They want to get rich fast. Without 'F2', there would be no 'F3'. Bollywood has got the 'Golmaal' franchise. Telugu cinema, too, needs a library of laughter. That's why we have turned this into a franchise.
I like Sunil a lot. You will see vintage Sunil in the movie for the first time in 10 years. It's a big-cast movie and it was not easy to can the film at all. If I needed to can 70 shots on a day, I would start with a target of 30 shots. I would call in those artists who are readily available. We were extremely careful when Annapurna garu and Y Vijaya garu were on set during the coronavirus pandemic.
Pooja Hegde's character is linked to the story. The idea to can a special song with her cropped up after the second wave of the pandemic. There is already a song on the three heroines (Tamannaah, Mehreen and Sonal Chauhan). I felt another special song should include a special appearance.
I like doing mass movies as much as comedies. 'Pataas', 'Supreme' and 'Raja The Great' had as much mass as they had comedy. It's important that there is a variation with every film that I do.
The heroines' characters will be more comedic than that in 'F2'. They drive the story. This is my third film with Devi Sri Prasad. He has given a wonderful album.
'Gaali Sampath' didn't work but I have the satisfaction that I made a film for my friends.
The film with Balakrishna garu will go on the floors in September or October. Shine Screens will be producing it. The script is going to be as powerful as Balayya garu. The fun factor will not be prominent but there will definitely be comedy.
