Rumours about Yash’s Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups have intensified in the last couple of days. The film’s OTT rights remain unsold after its theatrical run, reports say.
As per the online buzz, KVN Productions and Yash's Monster Mind Creations had received a pre-release offer of around Rs 150 crore from leading platforms (read Netflix and Amazon Prime Video). They rejected it, seeking at least Rs 50 crore more.
Current offers for post-theatrical streaming rights across all languages have now fallen sharply. As per Sacnilk and other trackers, the current offer is as low as Rs 30 crore.
In recent years, some OTT deals have been renegotiated post theatrical release. If a movie over-performs, the producer stands to gain. The opposite happens if the film bites the dust.
If true, producers Venkat R Narayana and Yash have themselves to blame for their excessive confidence in Toxic. The film's OTT saga also serves as a cautionary tale. Other upcoming pan-Indian event movies won't dare to test their luck unless they are supremely certain about box-office success.
