Fledgling Malvika Sharma has got an interesting role in Ram Pothineni's 'RED', which is helmed by Kishore Tirumala. The action thriller will release in theatres this January 14. In this interview, Malvika talks about her experience of doing 'RED', how much she likes multi-tasking and more.

Excerpts

Kishore Tirumala sir is amazing and is always helpful. Telugu is not easy for me and I was really scared. For the first two days, I was intimidated by the challenge. But the director was very patient with me. He gives his actors the right sort of brief. His instructions are brief and clear, and he never called me Malvika on set. He would call me by my character's name, which is Mahima. He wanted me to be like Mahima always.

Ram Pothineni always wants to be out of the box in his approach. He assists other actors while on set. And he transforms into a different actor in front of the camera.

We shot for a song during the lockdown in Europe. It took me time to realize that wearing a face mask is a must. Thank God that nothing untoward happened during the shoot. We shot for a song in Italy and ours was the first song to be shot in unique locations in Florence and other locations in Italy.

Being an actress has been a lot of fun. I am getting to meet a lot of people, I am getting to travel. But acting is not easy since an actor has to understand the feelings of a character, etc.

In 'Nela Ticket', I was just being myself. 'RED' is the first time that I have played a proper character. I have played someone else here. Whatever you see on the screen, that's not me in real life.

After my first film, I wanted to do something really strong and well-defined. I am waiting for such roles even now. I know Kathak and pole dancing.

I got a hang of Telugu before shooting for 'RED'. Unlike in 'Nela Ticket', I wanted to be natural here and feel like a native Telugu speaker on the screen.

I admire Allu Arjun sir, Prabhas sir and Mahesh Babu sir. I want to act with them. I have something coming up in Tamil. In Telugu, I am yet to sign up for a new film.

After my first movie in Telugu, there was a gap of two years. I did some endorsements and also completed my internship. It was not easy to balance different things. I would study during my flight journey. I was into multi-tasking. It has been my dream to be a criminal lawyer.

About 'RED':

The film is a remake of 'Thadam' (Tamil). Also starring Nivetha Pethuraj, Nasser and Amritha Aiyer, 'RED' has music by Mani Sharma.
