Kamakshi Bhaskarla is gaining steady acclaim for her strong choices. Known for content-driven projects, the actress is now awaiting the release of Agadha. The film hits theaters on August 14. Produced under Sri Adi Varaha Productions, it is directed by MS Raju. Ahead of its release, Kamakshi sat down for a candid conversation. She spoke about her role, her tough industry journey, and her high hopes for the movie.
High Praise And Big Inspirations
I felt very happy about working with MS Raju garu. A senior producer like him compared me with Anushka Shetty. It makes me feel even more responsible. I actually started laughing out of pure joy.
I really like his films. Manasantha Nuvve is my all-time favorite movie. So I was extremely happy when he called me. He told me that he watched my film Polimera. Every artist in his movies looks very powerful on screen. I really admire that quality in his work. When Raju garu called, I knew it would have a new concept. I knew the role would be important. I said yes immediately. Then he narrated the story to me. I liked my character even more after that. I never worry about success or failure. I enjoy the working process. I also wanted the experience of working with him.
I strongly believe Agadha will be a big success. I want this film to become a blockbuster for Raju garu's comeback. I was in tears after watching the movie. I felt extremely happy with how the scenes turned out. A normal scene on set looks magical on screen now.
Preparing For The Role Of Mahadevi
It took me some time to transform into Mahadevi. I had to put Kamakshi aside completely. I even set aside my own personal principles. Adapting to the character was very challenging for me. Mahadevi is born out of divine grace. I read books on Buddhism for this role. I also learned about black magic. I studied every single mudra carefully. I tried to understand her behavior and mannerisms deep down. I took great care during shooting. Kamakshi should not be visible anywhere in the film.
Raju garu wanted everything to look different from the start. I initially found it difficult to carry myself in that saree. For the action sequences, we conducted workshops in advance. We rehearsed everything thoroughly. Minor difficulties on set are always natural. But our entire team worked very hard together. That effort helped us achieve great results.
A Tough Journey And Breaking Stereotypes
We do not call a movie male-centric when a male actor leads it. But people immediately label it female-centric when a woman leads it. Women at home handle multiple responsibilities daily. They multitask all the time. I always wondered why female characters on screen cannot be independent too.
I have been waiting for the right opportunity since 2019. I gave countless auditions even for tiny roles. I worked extremely hard to get film opportunities. Even today, I do not own a car. I still travel on my bike. Now people recognize me on the roads. Some people even follow me. Owning a car is a big deal for a middle-class family like ours.
Some people openly made negative comments about my past work. They said I acted alongside Satyam Rajesh, so they did not want me. People here judge you based on your co-stars. I think that approach is completely wrong.
I do not like playing the same roles repeatedly. I want to portray characters that represent real women. When my family watches me, they should feel I look like them. As a Telugu girl, I must represent Telugu women on screen. So I prefer ordinary women over glamorous characters.
Agadha's Technical Superiority
There are not too many outright horror moments in the film. It is more of a thrilling experience overall. There are several divine moments throughout the movie. Everyone will leave with a divine feeling by the end.
Everyone on our set was a wonderful artist with great experience. Working with Bhanu Chander garu and Shiju garu was a true pleasure. I learned something new every single day. Technically, Nani Chamidisetty garu did wonderful camera work. Rajeev garu designed magical sets and a divine idol. The background score takes many scenes to the next level.
Break From Medicine:
I want to stay in the film industry now. I want to bring ordinary women's lives to the screen. I have worked as an assistant director and writer before. I do have an interest in directing. But that will happen much later in the future.
